Vaporesso Luxe XR Overview
The Vaporesso Luxe XR is a DTL-capable pod vape made especially for ease of use and on-the-go vaping. It has a maximum output of 40W and a 1500mAh integrated battery.
The casing is built to last and has a stunning see-through design. All Luxe pods are cross-compatible with the Luxe XR, and the pods are made for use with the Vaporesso GTX coil range with COREX heating technology.
This kit has all the bells and whistles of a sub-ohm mod without any effort. The internal processing chip is the AXON—a new powerful smart chip that allows you to enjoy the perfect vape without needing to fiddle with the buttons.
Body & Appearance
The kit features a translucent skeleton body made of durable PCTG material with an abrasion-resistant coating, meaning fewer scratches and everyday wear and tear. Though I must say, it is a fingerprint magnet!
Looking through the shell, you see the large battery and Axon chip on display, and man, does it look cool! The Luxe XR comes in Seven different colourways, 3 of which have a stunning space-like design in keeping with the kit’s futurism.
They have an eye-catching glistening holographic interior which sparkles brilliantly in good light—un-decidedly one of the better-looking mods available at the moment and certainly the slickest mod I own.
The top of the vape is made of a sturdy aluminium body and comes in as a singular clean piece of metal.
The silver colourway I have blends beautifully with the gradient of the transparent hues making for an extraordinarily attractive vape.
Features & Performance
What really makes the Luxe XR special is its intuitiveness; it’s just so easy to use!
You can snap your pod of choice on in seconds, there is no screen, no up and down adjustment buttons or even a menu.
The intelligence of the kit means that it’s done automatically without you having to do a thing!
This ease of use is thanks to the all-new AXON chip with built-in smart control, regulating the output by reading the coil’s resistance, ensuring your vaping experience is smooth and consistent.
The device’s maximum output is a jaw-dropping 40W! The wattage for the most powerful and compatible GTX coil is 40W with the 0.3Ω (ohm) mesh, though you do not reach that 40W for the best performance!
I would recommend sticking to the 0.4Ω at 26W-32W for a well-balanced vape. You don’t need to flaw the peddle in your car the same as you don’t need to flaw your vape!
The only button on the device is the multi-function fire button, which turns the vape off and on via five consecutive clicks. Or—you won’t believe this—pressing and holding to fire the device.
There is no auto-draw feature for the Luxe XR or X, meaning you must press the device button.
This may be a drawback for some as you cannot dangle the vape in your mouth and vape like a gangster, though needing to press the button makes every puff accurate to your liking—which I personally prefer, though I am an avid sub-ohm vaper.
But why do I have to press the button?! Well, I assure you, most things Vaporesso does are for good reason; most sub-ohm vapes are made to be button activation only due to the device’s power being significantly higher.
You do not want an unexpected plume of vapour aggressively blasting into your lungs like an unwelcome house guest. It is far more comfortable to control it yourself manually.
Battery & Charging
The battery inside the Luxe XR is a substantial 1500mAh; for context, this is roughly equivalent to two disposable vapes or half of a well-equipped 18650 (common sub-ohm external battery).
Most vape batteries are mildly overstated—unfortunately, this is industry standard.
However, the Luxe XR’s battery is impressively long-lasting; you can probably get one and a half, or two days’ worth of use out of a single charge, though I would recommend charging it before you use it each day.
Charging the battery to 90-100% in the morning ensures you don’t carry a frustratingly dead vape around all day, and the battery’s charge percentage, when low, slightly affects the output and, thus, flavour.
The battery is rechargeable via the USB type C charging port located at the bottom of the device, and the kit comes with a USB to USB-C cable.
The charging time could be faster, reaching 100% from 0% in around an hour at a 1V rate. But overall, it is pretty alright.
The Battery indicator light is tiding, meaning it goes from 3 to 2 to 1 before dying; this is helpful and simplistic.
Though I think four lights would be more precise, I agree with Vaporesso that three looks better. I’m still trying to figure out why, but it does!
Pod & Coils
The Luxe XR kit comes with two pods out of the box, one DTL (Direct to Lung) and one MTL (Mouth to lung).
Each pod has two airflow variations; tight and loose—adjustable by removing the pod and flipping it 180 degrees. The pods have integrated SSS-leakproof technology to reduce those pesty spillages.
All of the GTX coils are made to be push-to-fit, meaning you don’t have to screw anything in, simply push it in firmly to seal the pod, and you’re golden!
With the kit, you will receive one 0.8Ω (ohm) mesh for the MTL pod and one 0.4Ω mesh for the DTL.
Once you have used the coils provided in the kit and are looking to purchase the replacement coils, the Luxe XR is compatible with the GTX range!
Though I would recommend the 11 different coil options ranging from 0.3Ω-1.2Ω! When selecting your replacement coils, be aware that the Luxe XR is 40W max.
The recommended wattage on the coil should not be higher than 40W! Even if all of the GTX coils fit.
The GTX range offers both standard wire and mesh options depending on your preference. I would always recommend mesh.
Mesh coils produce a thicker, more luxurious vapour, distribute the heat more evenly over a wider surface area, and operate with the latest COREX heating tech by Vaporesso, making the flavours more powerful and your favourite E-Liquid last longer due to the efficiency.
What is the difference between the DTL and MTL pods?
Vaporesso Luxe XR DTL pod
The Direct to Lung pod is the best choice for anyone looking for monstrous kick-ass clouds and truckloads of flavour.
This pod is suitable for both RDTL/RDL (Restricted Direct to Lung) and DTL vaping styles.
The airflow facilitates higher wattage coils such as the mesh GTX 0.3Ω, 0.4Ω and 0.6Ω. (These are the recommended coils for the DTL pod.)
These gorgeous coils really shine with wider airflow, keeping both your clouds and the device from getting too hot.
If you really know what you are doing, you could also use the RBA (Re-Buildable Atomiser) coil too, though it is probably a bit much.
Vaporesso Luxe XR MTL pod
This pod is made for the vaper accustomed to pulling the vapour orally before inhalation.
This kind of vaping is common with vape pen users, standard pod / small kit users, smokers, or simply those searching for a more discreet vape than the DTL.
The shape of the inside of the mouthpiece is tighter, alongside the airflow holes at the bottom.
This pod allows for a satisfyingly restricted draw and a cooler, less intense vapour. However, The MTL pod is also capable of an RDTL vape too when in its looser setting.
One massive upside of the MTL pod is that when paired with the higher resistance, lower wattage coils, such as the GTX 0.8Ω and 1.2Ω, you will consume less energy from your battery and be able to recharge more sparsely.
Using the Vaporesso Luxe XR
This pod mod is a marvel to behold. Though truthfully, my experience using this pod kit has been a conflicting one…
On the one hand, the flavour of the vape is so astonishing it blows every vape I own, and probably most other pod-mods, out of the water comparatively.
I cannot stress enough how far beyond any pod vape the Luxe XR operates; its power is incomparable, and the flavour production and longevity of its GTX coils are unparalleled to the likes of any coil I have ever tried on a pod-mod.
However, (brace yourselves) with great flavour comes great responsibility, and the E-Liquid sight window has been a letdown (TPD 2ml), causing spontaneous dry-burnt hits, which suddenly smack my palette, causing me to cough profusely.
This is a serious drawback, and without this, it would easily be one of the best pod mods available on the market.
Hopefully, Vaporesso will fix this; asides from this, it’s jolly brilliant, and the issue should not be hard to fix.
Simply changing the colour of the plastic’s hue from dark to transparent should work—though it would be less aesthetic, I’d far rather that than never know when to refill!
I understand this may not be the case for the non-TPD compliant 5ml tank and that the issue is likely arising from using silicon to limit the capacity to 2ml.
Though I am obliged to be as honest as possible, and for those of you in the UK, this is important to note.
On a positive tone, the battery is impressively long-lasting.
I have enjoyed over one day’s worth of chain-vaping this bad boy without concern for battery life whatsoever; this is precisely what you need and a massive plus for the Luxe XR.
The fast charging enables me to plug it in for 20 mins in the morning and use it carefree throughout the day.
The tiding battery-life indicator is a lovely addition, sticking to the clean modernistic design whilst providing practicality.
Another feature which stands out is the versatility of switching the pod 180° to adjust the restrictiveness from DTL (Direct to Lung) to RDTL (Restricted Direct to Lung) on the DTL pod and loose MTL (Mouth to Lung) to tight MTL on the MTL pod.
I have found myself addicted to flipping it around for variety’s sake—and because of the enjoyably tactile experience of the magnetic pod snapping into place!
I must accredit Vaporesso for continuously pushing the boundaries of what is possible; the Luxe X (The non-replaceable coil option) is the first 40w pod system in the world with non-replaceable coils…
Furthermore, experiencing real DTL from a pod vape is remarkable; I am ecstatic to finally discover the perfect medium betwixt the Pod vape and a sub-ohm device.
Who should get the Vaporesso Luxe XR?
The Luxe XR is a distinctly unique vape, one of the few pod-style vapes providing 40 watts of power output and a real DTL experience.
The Luxe XR creates an entirely new market for those who are fans of larger DTL mods, such as sub-ohm devices but do not desire not to carry a cumbersome mod around on the go.
I, for one, am exceedingly grateful to take a break from carrying around my colossal sub-ohm mod—which ruins how all of my jeans look—and replace it with something ergonomic and hassle-free while still experiencing a similarly dazzling flavour to my custom tanks!
I highly recommend this vape to the flavour chasers; if you wish to extract every ounce of flavour, expanding into a more powerful DTL-capable device from standard pod vapes, pens, or smaller devices is a sure-fire way to attain the full potential of your E-Liquids.
You can enjoy voluminous clouds while still in the viscosity bracket of 50/50 E-Liquid (VG/PG) and bar juice nic salt E-Liquids with eau de parfum-esque flavour potency.
I consider the Luxe XR an excellent introductory sub-ohm vape, but if you are already a sub-ohm master, then the Luxe XR becomes your more convenient option for vaping on the move.
In short, this is an excellent choice for any vaper looking for a strikingly powerful flavour.
Vaporesso Luxe XR FAQs
The only significant difference is the type of pods which come with the kit; the Luxe X comes with non-replaceable coil pods, whereas the XR has replaceable pods.
Both kits have two pods: 1 DTL (Direct to Lung) and 1 MTL (Mouth to lung). The designs are also slightly different.
Use high PG E-Liquids, such as nic salts and 50/50.
Though this kit is sub-ohm, I would not recommend shortfills, as their viscosity is too high for the coils.
- Remove the magnetic pod by lifting it off the body.
- Flip the pod upside down and open the rubber flap to the filling port.
- Fill the pod with your desired amount of vape liquid.
- Close the filling port by pushing down to secure the sea.
- Drop the pod back into place, wait 2-5 minutes for the E-Liquid to saturate the coil and vape away!
Yes! You can use any Luxe pod with either model. They are entirely interchangeable.

Summary
Overall, It has been an incredible journey using this device, and asides from the dry burns, I could not think of a better on-the-go DTL vape for getting a powerful kick throughout my day.
The flavour kicks in strong and punchy, coating my mouth to perfection especially with bar nic salts. Both the MTL and DTL are delightful to use and provide great swip-swapping variety throughout the day.
If you get one for yourself, you’ll enjoy this so much; the freedom to run two different flavours with different vaping feelings in parallel is tremendous.
Its modernistic simplicity is elegant and creates a seamless and stress-free vaping experience.
I have not had any malfunctions or complications using the device whatsoever, the smart AXON chip does it all perfectly!
I am thrilled to be able to recommend such a great vape to the less experienced vaper thanks to its accessibility, which is a massive win for getting more people off traditional cigarettes, and it allows everyone to have a great tasting vape without having to be a seriously invested vaper!
