Body & Appearance
The Vaporesso Gen PT80 S features a one-piece body crafted from robust and refined PC material that boasts four layers of protection, making it resistant to scratches caused by everyday use.
The fire button has a hardy and wobble-free feel, and the overall build quality is top-notch, as expected from Vaporesso.
The Vaporesso Gen PT80 S has an awe-inspiring, elegant long body weighing in at 70g(Without a battery)—which is a remarkably lightweight and efficient build for a powerful sub-ohm device.
However, with the battery installed (around 45g additional grams), it feels more substantial, balanced, and high quality rather than a super-light tacky vape!
The palm-sized body has diagonal lines etched into its surface, providing a slip-free grip.
The bottom up-and-down buttons have a particularly pleasing click, and the colourway beautifully matches the well-proportioned body.
There are minor annoyances; the large fire button is prone to scratches, but this is likely due to the button not having the same layer of coatings as the rest of the body.
Let’s be honest, though; it’s not a major concern for those who regularly use their vape devices—It’s inevitable.
The USB Type-C charging port is conveniently located at the bottom of the front of the mod, beneath the buttons and screen, making it easily accessible while enabling upright internal charging if you do not own an external battery charger.
Features & Performance
The Vaporesso Gen PT80 S pod kit stands out as a pioneering landmark in vaping, being the first and only system to integrate top-airflow and top-filling (alongside its little brother).
The swivelling tank design and a strong filling port plug offer seamless integration of these two highly beneficial and sought-after features; this vape is almost spill-proof, providing an even smoother experience and more straightforward operation.
You don’t have to stress about your vape spilling all the time!
Vaporesso boasts the AXON chip for internal operations within this model variation! The Vaporesso Gen PT80 S’ AXON chip automatically detects the coil resistance and adjusts the wattage accordingly, and man, oh man, is this chip good!—a truly effortless experience of quality sub-ohm vaping without concern! Just vape away!
While the OLED screen is an excellent addition, the best features of this kit are built within the tank and coil. The menu screen can be accessed by simultaneously pressing the up-and-down buttons (which are more prominent on the PT80s than the PT60).
This opens the options menu, which displays various settings: VW (Variable Wattage), VV (Variable Voltage), SW (Smart Wattage), Default, and Exit. I recommend using the SW option, as it does the work for you.
Although the device is almost identical to its little brother, the PT60, there are some notable differences.
Primarily, and most notably, the PT80 S has a larger external 18650 battery and a more significant body and buttons, which unlock the use of more powerful coils!
Battery & Charging
It takes approximately one hour and a half to fully charge a 18650 battery externally. Using the Vaporesso Gen PT80 S’ built-in charger takes slightly longer—Yes, the mod comes equipped with a USB Type-C internal 2A fast charging option (cable included), but it is not recommended to use it frequently.
Charging through the mod can potentially damage the battery’s health over time. However, if you don’t mind the potential risks, then it is probably fine.
With a new 18650 battery, it lasted me two to three days of use on a single charge!
Which is far above the average of two days. This is almost the same as the PT60; both devices are awe-inspiring. A 18650 battery typically holds around 2000-2500mAh, which is up to 500mAh more than the PT60.
Ensure you remove the magnetic door (the textured grip) and insert the battery correctly.
The unprecedentedly-significant battery life is likely due to the pre-installed 0.3Ω (ohm) GTX mesh coil, which only demands 32-45W of power (around half of the 80W maximum output).
If you want a slightly greater battery life and are willing to purchase an external battery charger, I recommend checking them out as, over time, it will save you.
And having more than one battery on the go can be incredibly handy! Especially for adventurers!
A Side Note on Battery Safety:
Ensure you stay safe while using external batteries—like in the Vaporesso Gen PT80 S—do not leave them lying around, and never leave charging batteries unattended.
Never expose batteries to water or too low or high temperatures. And don’t use them if they have any damage to the body or wrapper. Please take care and use them responsibly!
The xTank
The Vaporesso xTank Pod provides an exceptional Direct to Lung (DTL) draw, which is surprisingly airy for a pod tank.
The xTank is truly unique in its kind, as it is the only pod tank available in the market with both top-fill and top-airflow features.
As mentioned in the features, the Vaporesso Gen PT80 S successfully combines these two highly desirable features with perfect harmony, creating a new sector within the industry.
The top-airflow system of the xTank pod is a perfect solution for those who have experienced issues with leaky vapes, provided that it is not left upside down.
By twisting the top aluminium cover, you can control the airflow restrictiveness and gain access to refill the device.
Once you have refilled, push the rubber stopper back in place to create a tight seal before reclosing the cap.
By twisting, you can easily adjust your Restricted Direct to Lung (RDTL) hit for an optimal experience, with millimetre-fine increments that allow for the ideal flow of delicious vapour into your lungs.
It is important to note that the TPD standard xtank pod’s capacity is 2ml; half of the tank is filled with silicone to meet this standard, so you can only measure the E-Liquid level from one side
Side note: If you have allergies to silicone, I would strongly advise against using this pod mod as your vape liquid will be in direct contact.
The GTX Coils
Now, let’s properly dive into how incredible these replaceable coils are!
These vape coils are out of this world! They come with something they call COREX heating technology (aka Morph-Mesh), which spreads heat evenly and efficiently. No more hot spots that burn your juice and require frequent coil changes. This technology is a real game-changer!
Inside the Vaporesso GTX coils is cumulus cotton, i.e. Vaporesso’s luxurious cotton that sucks up liquid efficiently and helps protect against dry burns. This cotton massively impacts how long your vape stays tasting nice!
I cannot say I honestly notice it as particularly exceptional, as I am accustomed to using the highest quality organic Japanese cotton in my rebuildable vape.
However, the flavour of the GTX coils speaks for itself, and it’s pretty darn good!
Trust me when I say this – good cotton is the key to a great vaping experience.
Without it, you’re gonna have a lot to complain about!
The GTX mesh coil options for the Vaporesso Gen PT80 S vape kit range from the 1.2Ω (ohm) coil for a smooth and cool vapour to the potently powerful 0.15Ω coil for kick-ass clouds.
The most powerful coil of the GTX range is usable thanks to the added power provided by the external battery, which is a big reason to get the PT80 S over the PT 60!
The 0.15Ω mesh coil, however, has a recommended ideal wattage of 70W, which pushes the mod to the upper realms of its limits—pumping out impressive, voluminous, voluptuous clouds of ecstasy.
The flavour is kick-ass! Though your battery will die much faster, and your E-Liquid will drain from the coil, acting like a tiny thirsty elephant!
The GTX coils are not picky when it comes to E-Liquid; they can handle both shortfills (high VG E-Liquids) and nic salts like a champ.
But importantly, I wouldn’t suggest using nic salts with the sub-ohm coils; if you desire to vape nic salts, ensure you are using any coil higher than +1Ω(ohm).
This versatility is what really makes the Vaporesso Gen PT80 S a winner.
Using The Vaporesso Gen PT80 S
When I first picked up the Vaporessso Gen PT80 S, it was how outrageously lightweight it was despite utilising a 18650.
It has Vaporesso’s AXON chip! Yes, you heard that right! After looking inside, the mod inside the battery compartment when you remove the cover is a little “AXON Chip” Engraved inside!
This does beg the question of why they didn’t mention this anywhere on their product website or use it as a selling point. Though honestly, I am simply elated they implemented it.
I am now entirely uncertain whether they put it into the PT60 or whether the AXON chip is only on the Vaporesso Gen PT 80 S.
External battery mods often come in two categories: either they are poorly made and inexpensive, or they are well-designed and high-quality.
This particular mod undoubtedly falls into the latter category. Its impressive durability and tactile body sensation make it stand out substantially like the PT60.
One of the best things about having an external battery is the ability to carry multiple batteries and replace them on the go.
Plus, whenever the battery dies, you can replace it rather than buy a new mod—a huge bonus!
From my observation, the remarkable power efficiency and coil longevity of the Vaporesso Gen PT80 S can be attributed to the innovative COREX heating technology featured in its GTX coils.
This new mesh efficiency surpasses conventional mesh coils, making them an incredible upgrade.
Moving on, there are some drawbacks that must be discussed…
The battery compartment is overly enclosed around the side of the battery. This makes it extremely fiddly and finicky to install and remove.
This poses a great problem every time you wish to charge your battery externally—if, in fact, you do.
And then there’s the screen… It’s easy to read, bright and clear and does the job, but it is in massive need of being updated.
Compared to modern competitors and other vapes Vaporesso offers, why did they do this? Anyway, it gets the job done, but I expected more.
I must be honest and point out the downsides, as always, but let’s not end on a sour note.
This vape is an excellent mod—undoubtedly innovative, well-crafted, and expertly executed.
That powerful coil blew me away, and just the feel of the mod in my hand brings joy to my face.
It truly is a pleasure to use. Very reliable and remarkably consistent. Overall, no word of a lie; it’s a pretty awesome vape.
Who Should Get The Vaporesso Gen PT80 S?
The Vaporesso Gen PT80 S is not for everyone! However, if you are in the market for an upgrade from a pod system or small starter vape, I see this as the perfect intermediate kit.
The Vaporesso Gen PT80 S is an exceptional external battery sub-ohm pod kit. It is perfect for those who want customisability without having to do very much labour themselves in terms of maintenance or everyday operation; this is mainly thanks to the smart chip and the sheer brilliance of the design.
This mod offers an exceptional DTL (Direct to Lung) experience in a relatively compact and light package.
It is important to distinguish that this vape is probably not the best option if you are looking for a big desk-sub-ohm vape.
It is more suited to be a medium-powered on-the-go vape for better clouds and flavour without taking up too much space or being too heavy to travel around for daily use.
My mother tried its counterpart, the Gen PT60. She loved it! She had nothing but praise and admiration for how high-quality the kit felt.
It is much better compared to her usual Vaporesso Forz TX80 (an old Vaporesso model).
She said that the PT60 feels far more natural and easy to use. And that with this pod, she doesn’t have to worry about E-Liquid spillages. Granted, this is a slightly different mod, but it speaks volumes to the accessibility of the Gen PT range.
It is accentuated by the commonalities both mods share with each other; the Vaporesso Gen PT80 S would not be as perfect for her as the extra power and the external battery is unnecessary. But if you’re looking for an extra kick of power, flavour and clouds, why not?!
The coils deliver impressive clouds without getting too hot; this is especially prominent with the small devices using powerful coils. However, it seemed not to have this issue.
All in all, if you’re searching for a top-notch vape that won’t break the bank, the Vaporesso Gen PT80 S Kit is an excellent option.
While it does have its downsides, it’s still a Vaporesso product, and for something with this level of quality, design, and functionality, it’s a wise decision.
